Meet Woody

We adopted Woody from #LovePup in 2021. We loved his name and felt it was a great fit for him, so we kept it!

His Adoption Story

We saw Woody online and were first drawn to what a cutie he is. We also saw that he was a bit of a special-needs dog: he was recovering from parvo, and he had a bad habit of eating foreign objects.

Our pack was down to one small dog (we’d lost two seniors in the couple of years before we brought Woody home), so we felt we had the time and capacity to be the home he needed.

How He’s Grown

Woody has come such a long way in the last five years. There have been no foreign-object incidents in a few years now (knock on wood), and he has grown into our sweet, confident pack leader.

His primary breed is Doberman, and he has those guard-dog instincts through and through, but with time and training he’s learned to chill out a bit. He takes his job of protecting our sons very seriously. He’ll even push away family members who roughhouse with them!

His Personality Today

He’s focused and authoritative with the pack and when he’s protecting the house, but he’s also the sweetest, most cuddly velcro dog. His favorite time of day by far is nighttime couch cuddles with Dad.

We adopted a Rottweiler mix puppy last year, and Woody definitely thinks of himself as the puppy’s dad. The two of them are very cute together.

A Few of His Favorite Things

He’s obsessed with watching TV, and just as obsessed with terrifying every horse, dog, rabbit, and other animal that comes on the screen.

If he were a human, he’d definitely be a pro soccer player. He loves chasing down a soccer ball and sinking his teeth into it. We’ve gone through a lot of soccer balls!

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

Woody has had his fair share of medical challenges. On top of eating foreign objects, he conquered cancer last year. In spite of everything he’s been through physically, he is always determined to be the most loving boy and to be there for his family and his pack.

How Woody Changed Our Family

Watching Woody’s journey has had a huge impact on our family. We developed a love for guard-dog breeds we never would have discovered without him.

Watching him fight through all of his challenges and still be such a good, loving boy has been really inspiring.

“We could not love him more.”

Advice for Anyone Considering a Rescue
